Why Choose Lewis?
Did you know that Lewis Middle School shares its southern property boundary with Eglin Air Force Base? That's one of the reasons many of our students are from military families, but it is by far not the only reason. Many parents request that their children attend Lewis on a zoning wavier. Why would families choose Lewis?
As the smallest middle school in the district, Lewis offers many advantages that the other schools can't. Our "family-oriented" atmosphere makes the student our number one goal. With our smaller school population students are known on a first-name basis with most of the staff. Better teacher to student contact allows us to meet individual needs as well as truly get to know each student. The student's feeling of belonging increases even more with our diverse offerings of extracurricular activities. Be it academic, artistic, or athletic, there is something for everyone at Lewis! We are especially proud of the fact that most of our organized sports programs offer either a 5th / 6th grade, or JV team so that everyone has a chance to participate.
Students blossom with the special care they receive at Lewis.
How to Apply for a Waiver to Attend Lewis
Waivers are available in the Guidance Office of Lewis Middle School. A request for a zone waiver is a simple process in which the parent or guardian completes the application and returns it to the LMS Guidance Office. In most cases, parents/guardians will be responsible for transportation to and from school. You will be notified in writing by the Okaloosa County School District if your zone waiver is approved
Lewis Middle School ranks as an “A+” school year after year, AND ranks higher than many schools in its class! Locate our school's information here.
